All about the cats

First thing I do in the morning? Feed the cats.

If one or both of them are outside for too long? Go and find the cats.

If one of them looks a bit uncomfortable? Move me or them so that they are comfortable.

If one of the cats is sleeping on my side of the bed? I move.

Share my food with the cats? Yes.

The cats share their food with me? Never

Am I a 'mad cat lady'? Almost certainly.

This week I will mostly be... 11th - 17th February 2018

The last couple of weeks have all been about fiction and blogging and I've neglected my feature writing and pitching magazines for commissions, so I'm going to focus on that this week. Naturally, I will be doing fiction too, but it'll be on the back burner and I won't be beating myself up if it's not filling my every spare minute.

There will be pancakes... We don't only have pancakes on Shrove Tuesday, but we do always have pancakes on Shrove Tuesday. Even though we eat normally through Lent, we always mark the beginning.

Making yoga part of every day... I recently started going to a weekly yoga class and I want to make time to practice more at home, so this is the week that I'm going to make that happen.

Treating myself... To lots of lovely things to show how much I love and value myself.

Goals for the week update - 10th February 2018

It struck me the other day that I've been posting my goals every week and then not really reviewing whether I've achieved them or not. So, from now on, every Saturday I'll post a review of how I've done at meeting my goals for the week.

You can read my goals for this week here, so how did I do?

Family things...I did get together with my cousins and I watched one win second place with her gorgeous sausage dog puppy at a dog show.

The family birthday was celebrated too.

Fiction... I did huge amounts of fiction writing and even submitted some for competitions, something I've been wanting to have the courage to do for ages.

Feature writing... Hasn't really happened this week as I seem to have been all about fiction and blogging.

Drawing... I've done a bit, not much, but I did write a piece of music

so I have stretched my creativity this wings a bit this week.

All in all, I'm calling this week a win, join me tomorrow to see what my goals are for the coming week.

Linziclip - Product review

I was a bit skeptical when I saw a "new" design of claw clip being promoted by Linziclip, but I'm always on the lookout for good accessories to keep my hair up and out of the way, so I asked if I could have some to review.

They kindly sent me the "midi" size - suitable for medium to thick hair, and the "mini" (which comes in a pack of three), suitable for most hair types.

The first thing I noticed was the shape, unlike traditional claw clips, the springs are hidden to the side, which means the back and front of the Linziclip are flat, so you can lie down with the back of your head on the floor and still be comfortable. In fact, wherever you lay your head, there are no pointy bits of Linziclip that can stick into your scalp.

The other thing I noticed about the shape is that it seems to mean that the Linziclip grips the hair better and stays in place longer than traditional claw clips. Whilst previously I've had to be constantly pinning my hair back…

Reasons to be cheerful - 8th February 2018

Actualy having my #r2bc post ready for Thursday is a reason to be cheerful for me, it's usually late on Thursday or early Friday before I get around to writing it. Anyway, here are my actually reasons to be cheerful this week.1) I wrote some music...

It's years since I've done this, but it was a challenge set at my writing group. I composed it on garageband on my Mac and, as a bonus, discovered that the software generates and prints the sheet music, so I didn't have to write it by hand.2) I've started entering my fiction for competitions... I only got back into writing fiction late last year, and I've never looked to entre competitions or get anything published, but this year I've decided to go for it and see where it takes me.3) Yoga... I started going to a class just recently and am seeing the benefits already. I'm even practicing at home and am absolutely loving the experience.4) Working smarter (and harder)... I've made a conserted effort to …

Invest in yourself

The other week I spent the best part of a whole week doing exactly that. I gave myself permission to attend a 5-day online conference and to go off and explore any ideas that it generated. It took a huge amount of time and was one of the best investments I've ever made in myself.

It gave me the opportunity to explore some things, confirm some things that I thought I was doing right, but also confirm some things that I'd thought probably weren't for me.

It also pushed me to take on some things I'd been toying with doing but had been putting off. Amazingly, I discovered that I can find the time for things when I want to.

I've always been a bit apologetic about taking time for myself, it's always felt like a bit of an extravagance, but now I'm embracing the fact that it's necessary and imperative that I give myself the time and the trouble I really deserve.

This week I will mostly be... 4th - 10th February

Ooh, you know when you don't really know? Well that's me now as I sit down to write this post. I don't know...
There are a couple of family things; getting together with some cousins we don't see very often, and a birthday that will probably involve lunch out somewhere.
There will definitely be lots of writing, I have a couple of fiction ideas that need working up into stories.
The drawing I started last week needs more work.

I have a very specific project in mind for this that will take quite a while to complete, but I think it's going ot be great when it's finally finished.
And pitching for some more feature writing projects, because I like to have lots in the diary to keep me out of mischief.

Reasons to be cheerful - 1st February 2018

This week has been such a bisy one - a reason to be cheerful in itself, but here are the things that have really cheered me this week.1) I started going to yoga... I've been wanting to start for ages and there's a class locally, but I didn't fancy going on my own. Then my mum said she fancied it too, so we went together and had a great time. I was definitely aching in places I didn't know you could ache, but I've slept better this week than I have for ages and I'm looking forward to doing it all again next week.2) Work is working... even though returning to being self-employed was completely the right thing to do, I was still worried about whether I'd get work and get paid, so this week I was pleased to see my name in print, to get some more commissions and to get paid for work I've completed. I love the flexibility I've got now and that I'm not tied to regular Monday - Friday, 9-5 hours. In fact, I'm not tied to any hours, which meant I co…
