This week I will mostly be... 29th April - 5th May 2019

This week, I'll be showcasing some of my writing at an event (eep), not just my fiction, but also my music... I'm not scared (wibble).

Reasons to be cheerful - 26th April 2018

My first reason to be cheerful this week is continuing with my plan to make good food. Here's the fish pie I made on Tuesday (yes, I even made the white sauce from scratch). It was followed by ice cream topped with blackberries from my garden cooked in maple syrup and whisky.
I had got into the habit of eating really badly, but I'm back on meal planning and prepping lots from scratch again and it's making a big difference.

Writing is going very well and I've managed to keep to my promise of sending out one pitch to a magazine editor every day. It's a simple fact that the more ideas I send out, the more commissions I'll get (writing really isn't rocket science), so hopefully I'll be getting a steady stream of emails from editors saying "yes please".
And lastly, my seedlings are fast turning into plants and it's time to move them out of the house and into the greenhouse to harden off ready to be planted in the ground. The tomatoes and pepp…

I'm Sarah and I'm a stationery addict

This is just a little bit of my stationery collection (the bit I'm using at the moment). I have been very good for a very long time and not bought anything new. I've promised myself that I WILL use up all the sticky notes I have before I buy more and I will fill notebooks before moving on to new ones. I've even nearly used up all the notebooks in my stash.

I wrote here about electronic planning and I stuck with it for a while, but it didn't last, I want back to keeping stuff on paper.

And I tried Evernote again and using Google Calendar to keep note and appointments.

The truth is though, whilst I'm perfectly capable of using electronic planning methods and syncing stuff across all my technology, I actually prefer working on paper. How about you?

This week I will mostly be... 22nd - 28th April 2018

This week I'll be catching up with some writing because the weather last week was just too good to miss being outside. I got loads of gardening done which was great, but now I need a few days at my desk to send out some pitches and do some research to develop other ideas.

I'm taking a bit of time out to get my hair cut, I've been growing it for a while and because it's thick and curly I need regular cuts to keep it in shape.

I didn't shorten the curtains last week. Again, the weather was too good to miss, so shortening the curtains I'm going to put in my dining room got put on the back burner. Hopefully, I'll get them done in the next couple of days and then I can do the 'great curtain switch around', as I take curtains down in my dining room to hang the shortened ones, then move the current dining room curtains to my bedroom (where the current curtains are the same colour, but a bit too heavy).

And finally, I need to write a fiction story for my w…

Reasons to be cheerful - 19th April 2018

Well, let's be honest for a start and say it's actually the 22nd now, due to busy living life reasons - and there's a reason to be cheerful all by itself. Here though are my real reasons to be cheerful this week.
The good weather has finally meant being able to get out in the garden and move some projects forward. My mum and dad are helping me lots with all the ongoing projects.
I've done some baking and also lots of cooking of delicious and pretty healthy food. Having realised just how badly I was treating myself, I've made a concerted effort to spend time looking after myself.
I'm getting lots of writing done but challenging myself to go beyond the stuff I've done before to write more interesting and enjoyable stuff And last but not least, work is going really well, I'm picking up more regular commissions and also getting lots of fiction planned and written. All in all, a really good week and a great base to build on. What are your reasons to b…

This week I will mostly be... 15th - 21st April 2018

I've got a busy week this week, especially as the weather is actually looking pretty decent.

I'll be shortening a pair of curtains to hang in my dining room and then moving the ones that are currently in the dining room into my bedroom to replace a pair that hasn't quite fallen apart yet.

The fabric left over after the curtains are shortened will form part of another project that I've been thinking about for a long time, but more on that in another post.

Gardening! These are the courgettes I had to pot on at the weekend.

In other news, the peppers have FINALLY germinated, so hopefully, they'll come on strong now.

I'm also off to a garden centre this week so I will try not to spend every spare penny I have (we'll see).

Looking after myself. After my confession last week about not taking proper care of myself, I'm making a concerted effort to turn that around this week, with lots of delicious food and generally just being mindful of what I need.

And final…

Reasons to be cheerful - 12th April 2018

It's been a funny week this week. I realised I was 'going through the motions', really, stuck in a rut and just doing stuff for the sake of it. I couldn't really put my finger on what was wrong and then I read this post on the Lady Bluebottle blog and thought "that's where I'm at,  oh dear." Anyway, after a couple of days of doing very little other than feeling sorry for myself, I thought "f**k it, I know what I want, I know what I need to do, so get on with it!" Sp today I collected together all those "this might work", ideas and then I was asked to perform at a spoken word event next month, and then an editor commissioned a piece I really thought had disappeared into the interweb void. And all of a sudden things didn't seem so bad. I sat down and wrote a whole fiction story and I have an idea for another one. I spent some time catching up with a friend and then hunkered down for a few hours in a coffee shop doing some more w…

This week I will mostly be... 8th - 14th April 2018

Writing and gardening and sending off pitches to editors to get some more commissions.

And when I'm not doing that, I'll be reading, because I have a pile of stuff that's collected that I haven't got around to reading yet.
What are your plans for this week?

Reasons to be cheerful - 5th April 2018

The sun is shining! That's reason enough to be cheerful, especially after all the rain we had yesterday. Talking of yesterday, I enjoyed a lovely lunch out with my family to celebrate mum's birthday. It was lovely that the seven of us were together and were able to enjoy a leisurely lunch. We also decided to use public transport and mum rebelliously chose to sit at the back of the bus, we were like a gang of schoolkids! My seeds are growing, which is very exciting. I "may", have erred on the side of caution and planted "slightly", more seeds than the number of plants that I actually need, but better safe than sorry. And finally this week, having had a lovely couple of breaks over the last two weeks, I'm now back to work feeling positive and refreashed, so I've got lots of planning and writing done, and I have lots of ideas about where I want to go next. What are your reason to be cheerful this week?
