True tales from the garden... Some of it's gone a bit Pete Tong

You know those gardening stories about how everything is growing a. maz. ing. ly? The gardener has to fight their way through the greenery to actually pick produce?

Yes, that kind of thing...

Well... It's not always like that... The other half of that bed looks like this

There's some stuff growing in it, amongst the weeds, but nothing like what I was hoping for. I know the cats got in this side a bit, even after we put the netting up, but it really hasn't worked.

Then there's the peppers

Or not. Something has clearly feasted on them! And the tomatoes,

I don't know what's up with the ones on the right, they're in the same grow bag as that monster on the left, they were grown from the same bag of seed, in the same conditions and looked equally healthy when they were planted on, but they just haven't thrived.

And some of my beans have black fly

Actually this picture is good news, I've been treating the infestation with a soapy water spray and it's cut down considerably in a couple of days, so I'll keep at it.

It would be easy to get disheartened by the bad news, the things that haven't come as I'd hoped, but the majority of things are coming along nicely and there's still hope for most of the other stuff to get at least a little crop.

My point here is that, it's easy to curate the "perfect" life on social media and in the stuff we share, but it isn't all always perfect and we shouldn't feel embarrassed or shy or "wrong" to share the not so good as well as the "perfect". So, here's some of the not so good news from my garden.

But, even in the bits that aren't doing so well, there's still hope, there's still the chance of something growing if I pay some attention to the bits that need just a little bit more work.

Reasons to be cheerful - 5th October 2017

It's a quickie this week... I'm still loving my job and really glad that I made the move. I submitted two commissioned articles to editors and they were happy. I'm off on a trip, a couple of nights away (more on that next week). Hope you've had a great week too.

Reasons to be cheerful - 7th December 2017

1) After a day of sawing, drilling, cutting, etc, etc, and then a new bit in the boiler...We have gas! Yes, our heating, hot water and cooker are now working - the gas is fixed! SO happy after 12 days without it.

2) This morning Boyzilla was greeted by a dead RAT outside the sitting room. Whilst yucky (but not as yucky as if I'd had to clean it up), it makes me hugely proud that my cats are, well, cats.

3) The two planning tools I ordered for 2018 to help me move forward with my plans to do more writing have arrived and I'm looking forward to spending big chunks of the next four days exploring them and planning for a fantabulous year.
